What Is Parks Inner Child Therapy (PICT)?

PICT is a powerful and versatile therapy model that can be most easily described as a form of rapid cognitive therapy with a foundation in Transactional Analysis, it now incorporates aspects of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), which can bring about rapid positive change.

PICT was originally developed to assist adults to overcome the trauma and damage of sexual, physical and/or emotional abuse experienced during their childhood which may have been caused deliberately, by neglect or even by inadequate parenting which was unintentional. The focus of PICT is to empower people by assisting them to resolve past issues (known or unknown) that have left them with restricting feelings and behaviours. PICT is available for anyone wishing to address any emotional problem or unwanted behaviour - childhood abuse background is not mandatory.

The techniques available in the PICT model are useful for resolution of issues such as:

  • Lack of Confidence, Low Self-Esteem, Stress Related Problems & Social Problems.
  • Grief & Bereavement, Abortion, Miscarriage, Suicide, Murder, grief following the loss of a pet or job.
  • Compulsive Behaviour Disorder, Eating Disorders, Self Harm.
  • Fears, Phobias/Allergies, Anger.
  • Traumatic incidents such as fire, robbery, bombing, rape, etc.
  • Ritual Abuse, Dissociative Identity Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress
  • Depression, Anxiety, Relationship difficulties, Sexual Dysfunction.

The most significant feature of PICT is that it can bring about change compassionately because there is no need to disclose any details of traumatic events. PICT addresses the effects of the trauma (whether the trauma is in conscious memory or not) rather than focusing on the detail of an event. This allows clients to retain their privacy, dignity and work comfortably in order to bring about beneficial change in their lives. PICT produces measurable results and contains thorough, quick and effective techniques that can lead to lasting change.

A further development of this compassionate approach is PICT Quick Change Therapy. The advantage of this format is that a number of consultations can be held on a single day. This usually consists of a little over four hours consultation per day for any number of days, and can be on any days of the week. Days can be grouped together or alternatively some clients choose a series of weekends. A growing number of Parks Inner Child Therapists work very effectively in this way.
