The PICT Advanced Practitioner Diploma Course - Syllabus

This thirty-four day course offers unique tools and skills to enable practising therapists or counsellors to work quickly, competently, thoroughly, confidently and compassionately (which means without taking clients through details of traumatic experiences). The PICT Advanced Practitioner Diploma manual contains handouts for clients and has every exercise scripted for ease of use.

Each session is offered over two days

MODULE ONE - Theory

Session One

  • A study of the theory of PICT and how it works
  • How to create your personal portfolio
  • A sequential structure that builds a solid foundation to complete the quick resolution of past traumas or present day problems
  • A simple way to discover predominant representational systems

Session Two

  • A comparison of PICT theory to other therapy models
  • The effects of abuse
  • A structure to assess client problems and traumatic memories with the aim of resolution to client satisfaction

Session Three

  • An effective adapted NLP technique to assess the suitability of clients for PICT work and to aid recognition of potential therapy blocks

Session Four

  • A three step writing method, which will be discussed and experienced

Session Five

  • How to start a PICT client - Establishing strong rapport and assisting clients to understand how their restrictions started and how they will end
  • Changing abreactions, panic attacks or negative states quickly and easily.
  • Creating positive learning states
  • The exploration of anger and rage, clarifying the use of written or physical anger exercises and when to introduce anger work during therapy.
MODULE TWO - Techniques

Session Six

  • A comparison of PICT techniques to other therapy models
  • Working with self-harm, eating disorders, OCD, DID, etc.
  • How to determine if False Memory Syndrome is present & how to utilise positive memories to assist resolution.

Session Seven

  • Identifying and disconnecting mistaken beliefs

Session Eight

  • The major PICT change work technique - how to track back to an event where negative meanings were made, install positive experiences and disconnect the resulting restricting trauma/problems, shame, blame and guilt.

Session Nine

  • Once the bulk of trauma/problems are resolved a streamlined version of the major PICT change work technique is used to complete work on lesser difficulties.
  • Connecting clients with their resourcefulness, wisdom and their ability to transform.

Session Ten

  • Two popular NLP techniques that are designed to remove phobias in minutes.
  • Allergy work
  • Utilising metaphor and guided meditation to install a desire for change and transformation.
  • Assertiveness information and pictorial guidance for clients.

Session Eleven

  • Further practice of the PICT change work technique.
  • Pictorial review of progress on the course.
MODULE THREE - Practice

Session Twelve

  • A comparison of PICT practice with other therapy models
  • Critical Incident Debriefing – Changing submodalities (how each picture, sound or feeling is composed) alters the impact that any negative event/person has upon our senses. This is useful whenever clients feel they are trapped by fear concerning a person or traumatic event.
  • Case Study discussion.

Session Thirteen

  • Using time line work to resolve shame, blame or restricting issues experienced during adult life.
  • Powerful time line technique to consolidate PICT change work, facilitating clients who have experienced little positive parenting; who have issues/mistakes/choices from the past they cannot forgive themselves for; who have always felt lonely and isolated; or who are fearful of facing the future.

Session Fourteen

  • Resolving issues concerning the death of loved ones from natural causes, suicide or murder; miscarriage and abortion; death of pets; and issues concerning the death (or simply emotional death) of estranged family members.
  • Dealing with any issue where clients have conflicting inner messages and behaviours. It works perfectly in conjunction with the PICT major change work technique to treat Compulsive Behaviour Disorder, Eating Disorders, Self Harm, etc.

Session Fifteen

  • Introduction and training in the PICT Quick Change Therapy format

Session Sixteen

  • Two Assessment & Integration days - written and practical assessment with trainer and external examiner.

Session Seventeen

  • Follow up to assessment day work and discussion of case study.
